Yim, Ung Kyun

 

Tenor Yim was born in Seoul, 1955. He was enrolled and graduated the College of Music, Yonsei University in Seoul. Further studies were continued in Italy at the santa Cecilia Conservatorio, Roma and Osimo Accademia, Osimo.

 

As he awared the prestigious concours such as Mantova International(the 2nd prize) and Viotti(special prize) and Verdi concour, later concerts were organized for this prize winner at the 17 cities in Italy and accompanied by Orchestra such as Parma, Rossini etc.

 

His appearance in televison in Italy such as TVRS-TV and RTM-TV were praised by the critics such as "Milan" and "Mantova-Heroic, gifted tenor.

 

Since he returned to Korea in 1985, he was busy to perform 1200 concerts that accompanied by the Orchestra such as Korean Broadcasting System(KBS) Symphony, Seoul Philharmonic, Inchon City, Suwan City, Seoul Academy, Seoul Symphony to name a few.

 

Mr. Yim was the best tenor chosen to perform for special concert to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Liberalization this year and this will be self explanatory of his outstanding figure.

 

He is also beloved by the music fans through frequent appearances in both TV(100appearances) and FM radio broadcastings(1,000 times) such as KBS, MBC and SBS.

 

Many opera roles were given to him such as L'Elisir d'Amore, Rigoletto, I Due Foscari, Pagliacci, Otello, Aida etc. were all sensational and highly acclaimed by the opera critics and experts as the top ranking tenor in korea for his wide ranged, authetic bel canto singer who can accommodate all the different roles as requested: dramatic, lyric and messa di voce etc.

 

He is also cooperative with the music for the broadcastings and awarded the Grand Prixed Musician(tenor) and Tower award and Christian award for the Broadcasting, this year(1995)

 

SKC Record Company released two Compact Discs of Mr. Yim that are best sellers. Currently he is professor of the Korean National Institute of Arts and President of the foundation for preventing youth violence.a
